'(HUNG) CLOTH PATTERN' - Mechanically Printed British Linen and Calico

Mechanically Printed Calico and British Linen. This project started with a tessellating cross pattern found on an early 15th Century painting of Gregory The Theologian, John Chrysostom and Basil The Great, otherwise known as the Three Holy Hierarchs. I was drawn to this pattern because of its parallels with contemporary design as well as its uniqueness compared to other Middle Age era Christian patterns. This work transposes a religious symbol into its object state. Removing spiritual context from pattern by placing it within a contemporary setting without form. Using modern creation alongside traditional material to explore and blur past and present values within the object.
