'The Catching Net'- 2023
'The Catching Net' - Jute Twine |
The intention of this piece is to explore and display the visible and invisible connections seen throughout the world's history using the net as its symbol. The net is a display of linking/intertwining lines creating a tangible and metaphorical structure. An assemblage of connections creating a wider visual narrative. I wanted to use the net as I have used it as a symbol for historical connection in the past in my work ‘((UNEARTHED)) Objects’. I felt the net was a perfect symbol for this as it is an example itself of something that appears throughout history through marks and making seemingly independent of each other. From early Neolithic examples like the Antrea net and patterns carved in stone 75,000 years ago in Africa to Medieval heraldic patterns and contemporary clothing. A visual depiction of instinctual human acts and making.
